Painting 8A shows the first few seconds of powered flight as the twin solid rocket boosters on either side of the Titan III lift the stack into a cloudless, starry sky, to the proper altitude and speed for ignition of the first stage engines. The perspective is looking almost directly up the throat of a booster, with the lines of the rocket and the support tower pointing into the dark blue of the sky. Half of the image is the empty blue sky and the other half is filled with the flame and smoke of the launch.

The red nose section of the Gemini-B capsule is visible despite the perspective and distraction. The solid boosters appear to have five segments, as before.

This painting has an acetate sheet associate with it, but it is not annotated.
